Yunotani [Hot spring] - Yunotani

Japanese: 湯ノ谷[温泉] - ゆのたに

A hot spring in Choyo Village, Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture. It contains sodium bicarbonate and iron carbonate, and is 71-84°C. It is located in a plateau at an altitude of 820m on the middle slope of Eboshi-dake, one of the central crater cones of Mt. Aso, and is the highest of all the hot springs in Aso. It is said to have been discovered in 1752 (2nd year of the Horeki era), and the number of visitors has increased rapidly since the opening of the Toyohashi Main Line in 1928. It offers excellent views of the Kumamoto Plain, Ariake Sea, Mt. Unzen, and is connected to the Eboshi-dake mountain trail and the bus route to the Aso crater. There is a bus service from Akamizu Station on the Toyohashi Main Line. [Sakakibara Takashi]

熊本県阿蘇郡長陽村にある温泉。含ボウ硝重曹炭酸鉄泉，71～84℃。阿蘇山の中央火口丘の一つ烏帽子（えぼし）岳中腹の標高820mの高原地帯にあり，阿蘇の諸温泉では最高所にわく。1752年(宝暦2)の開湯と伝えられ，1928年豊肥本線が開通してから利用客が急増した。熊本平野，有明海，雲仙岳などの眺望がよく烏帽子岳登山道や阿蘇火口への登山バス道路などが通じる。豊肥本線赤水駅からバスの便がある。【榊原貴士】
