Tehran Conference

Japanese:
Tehran Conference

A tripartite summit meeting between the US, the UK and the USSR was held in Teheran, the capital of Iran, from November 28 to December 1, 1943, during World War II. The main points of agreement were: (1) the US and UK would set a date of May 1944 for the establishment of a so-called "Second Front" in the western part of the European continent; (2) to support Tito's partisans in Yugoslavia; (3) to encourage Turkey to enter the war; (4) the Soviet Union would enter the war against Japan when the opportunity arose; (5) to guarantee Iran's independence and provide support; and the US and UK also made proposals regarding the borders and division of Germany after the war. This meeting was held because the USSR had been gaining the upper hand on the eastern front since its victory in the Battle of Stalingrad (July 1942-January 1943), and with Germany's defeat in sight, the US and UK needed to make military and political adjustments with the Soviet Union once again.
