Yuzawa [Hot Spring] - Yuzawa

Japanese: 湯沢[温泉] - ゆざわ
Yuzawa [Hot Spring] - Yuzawa
A hot spring in Sekikawa Village, Iwafune County, northern Niigata Prefecture. A salt spring containing gallium oxide, 40°C. One of the Arakawa Gorge hot spring resorts scattered along the Arakawa River system. It is located at the foot of Mt. Yuzo (726m) and overlooks the valley of the Yuzo River. It is said to be the oldest hot spring in the hot spring resort, having been discovered about 600 years ago, and has been used as a hot spring inn along the Yonezawa Kaido (now National Route 113). The number of visitors has increased since the Japanese National Railways (now JR) Yonesaka Line was completed in 1936. The surrounding area is a quiet place with the sound of sculpins singing, and even today it is popular with hot spring visitors for medical treatment and health resorts. A bus runs from Echigo-Shimonoseki Station on the Yonesaka Line.
