An island in the western part of the Geiyo Islands in the Seto Inland Sea, in southern Hiroshima Prefecture. As an island it once formed the town of Kamagari in Aki District, but is now part of Kure City. Its area is 18.81 square kilometers. It lies in the sea southeast of Kure City on the mainland, with Toyo Island to the east and Shimokamagari Island to the west. In 1979 (Showa 54), it was connected to Shimokamagari Island by the Kamagari Ohashi Bridge (480 meters). The island is mountainous, with Mount Nanakunimi (457 meters) at its highest point, and there is little flat land. The mountains have been cultivated in stepped formations, and are mostly mandarin orange orchards.
