Yuzawa [town] - Yuzawa

Japanese: 湯沢[町] - ゆざわ

A town in Minamiuonuma County at the southern tip of Niigata Prefecture. It occupies the upper reaches of the Uono River and Kiyotsu River in the Mikuni Mountains. Yuzawa, in the center of the town, was a former post town on the Mikuni Kaido road, and is served by the Joetsu Line, the Shinkansen, and the Kan'etsu Expressway. It is known for ski resorts such as Naeba, Yuzawa, and Iwappara, and Yuzawa Onsen (simple springs, 37-85°C). With Mount Tanigawa and the Kan'etsu Tunnel on the border with Gunma Prefecture and Mount Naeba on the border with Nagano Prefecture, the town has developed as a tourist destination in the Joshin'etsu Kogen National Park. Area: 357.29 ^km2 . Population: 8,396 (2010).

新潟県南端，南魚沼郡の町。三国(みくに)山脈の魚野川，清津川上流域を占め，中心の湯沢は三国街道の旧宿場町で，上越線，新幹線，関越自動車道が通じる。苗場，湯沢，岩原(いわっぱら)などのスキー場と湯沢温泉（単純泉など，37〜85℃）で知られ，群馬県境に谷川岳，関越トンネル，長野県境に苗場山があり，上信越高原国立公園の観光地として発展。357.29km²。8396人（2010）。
