A government-run voluntary personal pension insurance operated by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. It was established by the Postal Pension Act of 1926 (Taisho 15). After World War II, it was closed due to inflation and other factors, and stopped accepting new contracts from around 1968 (Showa 43). However, in response to the growing need for personal pensions due to the aging of the population, the New Postal Pension was launched in 1981. Furthermore, in 1991 (Heisei 3) to meet the need for lifelong security, the Postal Pension System was integrated into the Postal Life Insurance System and the law was also integrated into the Postal Life Insurance Act, and Postal Pension became "Postal Life Insurance Pension Insurance", and the name Postal Pension was no longer legally known. In addition, the jurisdiction over the three postal services, including postal life insurance, was transferred from the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to the Postal Services Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in a government reorganization in January 2001, and furthermore, in accordance with the Japan Post Public Corporation Act of 2002, it became Japan Post Public Corporation in April 2003, but in accordance with the six postal privatization-related acts of 2005, it was split into four companies under the holding company Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. in October 2007, and the life insurance business was inherited by Japan Post Insurance Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. (The Postal Life Insurance Act was abolished). However, postal life insurance contracts with government guarantees that were concluded before privatization are managed by the Independent Administrative Institution Management Organization for Postal Savings and Postal Life Insurance.
