A small village in the Vosges department in eastern France. The village where Joan of Arc was born. Population: about 300. It is located 60 km southwest of Nancy, on the left bank of the upper Meuse (Meuse) River. In Joan's time, it belonged to the Marquisate of Bar, which was descended from the Duke of Lorraine, and was a village of about 20 houses under the administrative authority of the French royal family. Joan's birthplace is well preserved, but only the corner tower of the church remains. The church was dedicated to Saint Remigius, and the name Domremy is derived from this. La Pucelle means "Maiden".
