Cora Sandel

1880‐1974
Norwegian female novelist. Her real name is Sara Fabricius. Her main theme is the expression of women's feelings of oppression. Her debut work, Alberte and Jacob (1926), written at the age of 46, is one of a trilogy of novels, along with Alberte and Freedom (1931) and Alberte Alone (1939), which depict the process of a woman's growth in a petty-bourgeois environment, leading to her independence as an artist. The figure of a woman seeking a similar freedom is most artistically expressed in the excellent imaginary landscape form of The Café at Kráne (1945).

ノルウェーの女流小説家。本名Sara Fabricius。女性の抑圧感情の表現を中心主題とする。46歳のときの処女作《アルベルテとヤーコブ》(1926)は《アルベルテと自由》(1931)，《アルベルテただ一人》(1939)とともに三部作をなし，小市民的環境のなかで芸術家としての自立にいたる女の成長過程を描く。同様の自由を求める女の姿は，優れた心象風景形式の《クラーネのカフェ》(1945)でもっとも芸術的な表現を得ている。
