Munehiro Yuki

Japanese:
Munehiro Yuki

A military commander during the Kamakura and Northern and Southern Court periods. His names were Magoshichi, Saemonnojo, and Kozukenosuke. He shaved his head and took the name Michitada. He was the son of Sukehiro, ancestor of the Shirakawa Yuki clan. In 1323 (Ganko 3), he donated money on the 13th anniversary of the death of Hojo Sadatoki, and in 1332 (Ganko 2), he served as an envoy to transfer land within Yoshima-no-sho. He built close ties with the Hojo clan and played an important role in southern Oshu, but in the following year (1330), after receiving an imperial decree from Prince Moriyoshi and an imperial decree from Emperor Godaigo, he followed Nitta Yoshisada and took Kamakura. In the same year, when Kitabatake Akiie was appointed governor of Mutsu Province, he assisted him, and in 35 (Kenmu 2), he was included in the Shikihyojoshu (Councillors' Council) along with his eldest son Chikatomo. In 36 (Engen 1, Kenmu 3), he led a large army of Mutsu together with Akiie, heading westward, driving Ashikaga Takauji to Kyushu. In the following year, he left Oshu again to pursue Takauji, but failed and fled to Yoshino. The following year, Akiie and Yoshisada were killed in battle, so he set sail from Ise Ominato with the aim of rebuilding the Southern Court's power in Oshu, but was blown back by a storm in the Tenryu Nada Sea, and died of illness on October 5, 38 (also called November 21) at Ise Komyo-ji Temple. In April 1903, he handed over his territory to his eldest grandson Akitomo, who inherited the Shirakawa Yuki clan.
