Moon platform (English spelling)

Moon platform (English spelling)
A Chinese term for an open-air platform. In the past, it referred to independent open-air platforms, as well as the platform areas set up in front of the bases of large buildings such as temples, shrines, and palaces as spaces for attendees during ceremonies. The moon platform in front of the Daiyuhoden Hall of Obakusan Manpukuji Temple in Kyoto is modeled after this style. Today, the term moon platform is not limited to ancient buildings such as temples, shrines, and palaces, but also commonly refers to train station platforms. [Tanaka Tan]
