Tamiathis

…The town was located north of the river Ras al-Bar at its mouth, and moved to its current location during the Islamic period. During the Greek period it was called Tamiathis, from which the Arabic name Damietta was derived. Facing the Mediterranean Sea, it was easily accessible by water, and developed as a commercial city during the Islamic period.
