Onne-numa Swamp

This lake is located at the base of the Nemuro Peninsula in eastern Hokkaido. It has a circumference of 15 kilometers, an area of ​​4.3 square kilometers, and a maximum depth of 7 meters. The lake was formed when seawater seeped into a valley created by land subsidence, and it connects to Nemuro Bay through a mouth about 500 meters wide. It is surrounded by natural mixed forests, and at low tide in spring and autumn, a tidal flat about 800 meters wide appears near the shore. It is rich in shellfish such as clams, surf clams, and whelks, and National Route 44 passes through the mouth of the lake.

北海道東部、根室半島(ねむろはんとう)の基部にある湖沼。周囲15キロメートル、面積4.3平方キロメートル、最大深度7メートル。陸地の沈降に伴って生じた谷間に海水が浸入して湖沼を形成、幅約500メートルの湖口によって根室湾に通じる。周囲を天然の混交林で囲まれ、春秋の干潮時には湖岸寄りに幅約800メートルの干潟が出現する。アサリ、ホッキガイ、ツブなどの貝類を産し、国道44号が湖口を通過する。
