A coelenterate (cnidaria) of the family Anemonidae in the class Anthozoa. It is found from the Tohoku region southward, living on sandy and muddy bottoms at depths of 20 to 300 meters. It lives symbiotically on gastropod shells such as the coelenterate and tengu-ni shell that contain hermit crabs. Its body is cylindrical, about 8 cm tall and 5 cm in diameter, with 12 vertical rows of reddish-brown spots on its smooth, white body wall. Its tentacles are short and white. The hermit crab anemone feeds on the leftover food of the hermit crab, and the hermit crab is protected by the anemone from predators such as octopuses and stonefish, forming a symbiotic relationship.
