Katsumi Jiryu

Japanese: 勝見二柳 - かつみじりゅう

1723-1803 A haiku poet from the mid to late Edo period.
Born in the 8th year of the Kyoho era. Studied under Izumiya Toyo and Wada Kiin. Travelled around the country preaching the revival of the Shoshu style. He was given the title of Chukososho by the Nijo family. Died on March 28th, 1811. Age 81. Born in Kaga (Ishikawa prefecture). His given name was Mitsushige. His other pen names were Niryuan and Sanshibo. His works include Kibi Ginso and Haikai Yawa.

享保(きょうほう)8年生まれ。泉屋桃妖(とうよう),和田希因にまなぶ。蕉風の復興を説いて全国を行脚(あんぎゃ)。二条家からは中興宗匠の称号をあたえられた。享和3年3月28日死去。81歳。加賀(石川県)出身。名は充茂。別号に二柳庵,三四坊。著作に「吉備吟草」「俳諧(はいかい)夜話」など。
