Tagliavini - Tagliavini (English spelling) Ferruccio Tagliavini

Italian tenor. Born in Reggio Emilia. He won first place in the Florence May Festival vocal competition in 1938, making his debut in the same year. Since his first appearance at La Scala in Milan in 1940, he has been invited to perform at major opera houses around the world, and has gained fame in operas by Donizetti, Bellini, Rossini, Puccini, and others. Known for his sweet, refined voice, he has left behind a legacy of sung Italian folk songs as well as opera. Since his first visit to Japan in 1954 (Showa 29), he has visited the country many times, including joining an Italian opera company invited by NHK. He retired from the opera stage in 1970.

イタリアのテノール歌手。レッジョ・エミーリア生まれ。1938年フィレンツェ5月祭の声楽コンクールで一位となり、同年デビュー。40年ミラノのスカラ座に初出演したころから世界の主要歌劇場に次々に招かれ、ドニゼッティ、ベッリーニ、ロッシーニ、プッチーニなどのオペラで名声を博した。甘美で磨き上げられた声で知られ、オペラのほかイタリア民謡などにも名唱を残した。54年(昭和29)初来日して以来、NHKが招いたイタリア歌劇団に加わるなど何度も来日した。70年にオペラの舞台から引退。
