...The halogen light bulb filled with iodine was invented in America in 1960, and was characterized by its small size, high efficiency, and long life due to the halogen cycle. Small halogen light bulbs filled with bromine (single base type) also appeared, and they became point light sources. The third lighting using electricity was the invention of the fluorescent lamp by American GE Inman in 1938. In Japan, the first step towards practical use was the use of 127 20W daylight fluorescent lamps to reproduce the murals of the Golden Hall of Horyuji Temple on August 27, 1940.
