…A Soviet violinist and one of the most famous performers of the 20th century. He graduated from the Odessa Conservatory and became a teacher at the Moscow Conservatory. He won second place at the International Wieniawski Competition in 1935 and first place at the International Ysaye Competition in 1937. After World War II, he began to play an active role in Western countries. In 1955, he visited the United States and Japan for the first time, and, armed with his outstanding performance technique and rich sound, he gave large-scale performances and gained explosive popularity. He is also known for playing a wide repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music. …
