A former town in Kitakanbara County, central Niigata Prefecture. It occupies the eastern Echigo Plain, on the right bank of the Agano River, and its central town of Yasuda is a strategic location on the Aizu Kaido (National Route 49). Dairy farming is thriving, and the town is known for its Anchi ware and other products. In April 2004, it merged with the villages of Kyogase, Mizuhara, and Sasagami in Kitakanbara County to form Agano City. Area: 40.91 km2 .
