A cleaning agent used primarily for disinfecting skin and wounds, and for cleaning unsanitary equipment. Although it is called a soap, it differs from so-called cleaning soaps made of sodium salts of higher fatty acids in that it has bactericidal and disinfecting properties. Representative examples include cresol soap, which is made by saponifying vegetable oil and dissolving it in cresol, formalin soap, which is mixed with an aqueous formaldehyde solution, and synthetic detergents, particularly cationic surfactants, such as cationic cationic soaps. Generally, commercially available products are supplied in liquid form. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
