A computer programming language. The machine code stored in memory devices is a string of bits that is difficult for humans to understand, but this language allows programs to be written in easy-to-understand letters and symbols that correspond roughly one-to-one to the machine code. In addition to being able to directly operate the hardware, it is also possible to write instruction codes in mnemonics, write addresses as symbolic addresses or in decimal numbers, and assign symbolic addresses to working locations within the memory device. コンピューターのプログラム言語。記憶装置に記憶する機械語は人間にとってはわかりづらいビット列だが，その機械語をわかりやすい文字や記号でほぼ１対１に対応する形でプログラムを書くための言語。ハードウェアを直接操作できるほか，命令コードを記憶用略号（ニーモニックmnemonicという）で書いたり，アドレスを記号番地や十進数で書いたり，作業場所を記憶装置内にとってそれに記号番地をつけたりできる。なお，アセンブリー言語で記述したプログラムを機械語に翻訳するプログラム言語処理系をアセンブラーassemblerという。→低水準言語
