Tarrasa (English spelling)

An industrial city in the Catalonia region in northeastern Spain. Located about 33 km northwest of Barcelona, ​​it is one of the city's satellite cities. It has a population of 173,775 (2001). Since the 18th century, it has developed as a center of the textile industry, mainly woolen textiles, drawing in labor from Andalusia and Aragon. It is located on a plateau 277 meters above sea level, and below the old town is a new town that was planned by separating the residential and industrial areas. Electrical and mechanical industries are also based in the city, utilizing hydroelectric power from the Ebro River basin. Originating from the ancient Roman town of Egara, it is home to the churches of San Miguel and San Pedro, both rebuilt around the 9th century, and the Romanesque Santa Maria Church. The Biosca Museum is known for its textile collection.

スペイン北東部、カタルーニャ地方の工業都市。バルセロナの北西約33キロメートルに位置し、同市の衛星都市の一つ。人口17万3775（2001）。18世紀以来、毛織物を主とする織物業の中心地として、おもにアンダルシアやアラゴン地方から労働力を集めて発達した。標高277メートルの台地上にあり、旧市街の下方に、住宅地区と工業地区を分離して計画的につくられた新市街が広がる。エブロ川流域で得られる水力発電を利用し、電気、機械などの工業も立地する。古代ローマの町エガラEgaraに起源をもち、9世紀ごろ再建されたサン・ミゲル、サン・ペドロの両教会、ロマネスク様式のサンタ・マリア教会などがある。ビオスカ美術館は織物のコレクションで知られる。
