[died] 897. Fustat. Arab writer. Spent his youth in Armenia and then Khorasan. His book Ta'rikh (Chronicles) is a brief history of the Chinese, Turks, Indians, Greeks, and other peoples of the world at that time, in the first part, and a chronology of the Islamic world from the birth of the Prophet Muhammad to 872, showing his views as a Shiite Muslim and the influence of astrology. He later moved to Egypt and wrote Kitāb al-buldān (The History of the Countries), a book of world geography based on documents and the stories of travelers.

アラブの文筆家。青年時代をアルメニア，次いでホラサンでおくった。著書『ターリーフ (年代記) 』 Ta'rīkhは，第1部は中国人，トルコ族，インド人，ギリシア人その他当時の世界諸民族の略史，第2部は預言者ムハンマドの生誕から 872年にいたるイスラム世界の編年史で，シーア派のムスリムとしての彼の見解や占星術の影響などが示されている。のちエジプトに移り，『諸国誌』 Kitāb al-buldānを書いた。これは文献や旅人たちの話から資料を得た世界地理の書である。
