It enters Niigata Prefecture and becomes the Agano River, and of the 210 km long river that flows into the Sea of Japan, 123 km of it is the Agagawa River. Approximately 80% of the Agano River's drainage area is in Fukushima Prefecture. It is the only river draining the Aizu region within the prefecture, but part of the basin straddles Koriyama City and Iwase County.
