Montelimar (English spelling)

Ancient name Acunum. A town in the Drôme department in southeastern France, located at the confluence of the Rhône and Roubion rivers. Known for its nougat and cardboard production, it also has light industry and is a commercial center for the rural area. The Montelimar Dam and power station were built as part of the Rhône Valley Comprehensive Development Plan. A town dating back to Gallo-Roman times, it has the ruins of the Château de la Adhémar (12th century) and the Tower of Narbonne (16th century). Population 31,386 (1990).
