Borneo [island] - Borneo

Japanese: ボルネオ[島] - ボルネオ
Borneo [island] - Borneo
It is the largest island in the Malay Archipelago in southern Southeast Asia. It is the third largest island in the world. Sabah and Sarawak in the north are part of Malaysia, and Brunei is an independent country, but 73% of the island is part of Indonesia and is called Kalimantan. It is mountainous overall, with the highest point being Mount Kinabalu (4,095m). Large rivers such as the Kapuas River and the Balito River flow through it, and lowlands spread across the south. It has a tropical rainforest climate, with almost the entire island covered in dense forests and marshes, and is rich in flora and fauna, including orangutans, Bornean wildcats, and Indian elephants. Paddy farming is practiced downstream of the large rivers and on the coast, and slash-and-burn agriculture is practiced elsewhere. It is rich in resources such as gold, silver, bauxite, and oil. It produces rice, rubber, palm, tobacco, and other crops. The inhabitants are Malays and Chinese on the coast, and Dayaks in the inland. It has been ruled by Sumatran and Javanese dynasties since the 12th century, but in the 16th century, Brunei was established in the north. Eventually, the British took control of the north, and the Dutch moved into the south. 743,205 km2 . 12,519,200 people. Indonesian Kalimantan is 544,150 km2 . 13,787,831 people (2010).
