Japanese: クリスチャン･サイエンス（英語表記）Christian Science

Meaning "Christian Science." A Christian faith healing sect founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910), author of Science and Health (1875). According to her, only the mind is real, matter is an illusion, and illness is a mental delusion. Therefore, illness can be cured by cutting off the delusion through faith. At first, she had no intention of starting a new denomination, but as the number of followers increased, she founded the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Massachusetts in Boston in 1892, which became the headquarters, known as the "mother church."

〈キリスト教科学〉の意。《科学と健康》(1875)の著者エディMary Baker Eddy(1821‐1910)によって1879年に創立されたキリスト教の信仰治療主義の一派。彼女によると精神のみが実在であって物質は幻想であり，病気は精神的な妄想である。それゆえ信仰によってその妄想を断ち切れば病気はいやされる。最初は新しい宗派をつくる気はなかったが，信者の増加とともに92年ボストンにマサチューセッツ州第1科学者キリスト教会を設立，これが〈母教会〉と呼ばれる本部となった。
