A literary movement that took place in Spanish America from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Mainly in the field of poetry, it aimed to modernize and break away from the influence of the former colonial power Spain, and was pioneered by Cuba's J. Martí and others, and was perfected by Nicaragua's R. Dario. It absorbed the ancient melodic poetry of Quevedo and Góngora, as well as the achievements of the French Symbolists and the High Temperamentalists, to create a poetic world full of musicality and color. It promoted the independence of Latin American literature and also had a major influence on subsequent Spanish-language poetry. → Related articles Jimenez | Machado Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
