A literary movement that took place in Spanish America from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Mainly in the field of poetry, it aimed to modernize and break away from the influence of the former colonial power Spain, and was pioneered by Cuba's J. Martí and others, and was perfected by Nicaragua's R. Dario. It absorbed the ancient melodic poetry of Quevedo and Góngora, as well as the achievements of the French Symbolists and the High Temperamentalists, to create a poetic world full of musicality and color. It promoted the independence of Latin American literature and also had a major influence on subsequent Spanish-language poetry.

19世紀末から20世紀初頭にかけてスペイン系アメリカで起きた文学運動。主に詩の分野で，旧宗主国スペインの影響を脱した近代化を目指し，キューバのJ.マルティらを先駆とし，とくにニカラグアのR.ダリオによって完成された。ケベード，ゴンゴラの古曲詩やフランスの象徴派（象徴主義）や高踏派の成果を吸収し，音楽性や色彩にとんだ詩世界をつくった。ラテン・アメリカ文学の自立を促すとともに，以後のスペイン語詩にも大きな影響を与えた。
