Anegawa

A river that flows south through northeastern Shiga Prefecture and empties into Lake Biwa. It originates at Shinho Pass on the border with Gifu Prefecture, flows south in an almost straight line through the northern part of Maibara City, then turns west, joins the Takatoki River, and empties into Lake Biwa near Minamihama in Nagahama City. It is about 40 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​about 685 square kilometers. It has long been known as a rough river, and four rivers that are thought to be old river channels can be seen in the alluvial fan of the Anegawa River. The upper reaches are covered in deep snow and are a forestry area, and Nomura in Nagahama City in the middle reaches is the site of the Battle of Anegawa. Minamihama at the mouth of the river prospered through water transportation in the early modern period. In 2002, the Anegawa Dam was completed upstream in Magadani, Maibara City, and the dam created Lake Hakuryu.

滋賀県北東部を南流して琵琶湖(びわこ)に注ぐ川。岐阜県境の新穂(しんほ)峠に源を発し、米原(まいばら)市北部をほぼ直線状に南下したのち西に方向を転じ高時川をあわせ、長浜市(ながはまし)南浜付近で琵琶湖に注ぐ。延長約40キロメートル、流域面積約685平方キロメートル。古くから荒れ川として知られ、姉川扇状地には4条の旧河道と思われる河川もみられる。上流部は深雪地で林業地帯、中流域の長浜市野村は姉川の戦いの地。河口の南浜は近世に水運で栄えた。2002年（平成14）上流の米原市曲谷(まがだに)に姉川ダムが完成、ダムによって白龍湖が出現している。
