A fish of the genus Echinoidea and family Goby in the order Perciformes. It is found widely in India, Southeast Asia, China, and the Korean Peninsula, but in Japan it is found only in the Ariake Sea. In Saga, it is called Jingichi. Its body is long and slender, eel-shaped, with the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins all connected together with no clear boundary between them. The left and right pelvic fins join together to form a sucker. There are no scales on the head or body. Its eyes are very small and buried under the skin. It lives in holes that it digs with multiple exits in the soft mud of tidal flats. The tunnels connect with each other and become vertical at their deepest point.

スズキ目ハゼ科ワラスボ属の魚。インド，東南アジア，中国，朝鮮半島に広く見られるが，日本では有明海のみに分布する。佐賀でジンギチと呼ぶ。体は細長く，ウナギ型をしており，背びれ，尾びれ，しりびれが連なっていて境目がはっきりとしない。腹びれは左右が合して吸盤を形成する。頭にも体部にもうろこがない。眼が非常に小さく，皮下に埋没している。干潟の軟泥中に複数の出口をもった孔を掘り，その中に生息する。各孔道は互いに連絡し，最深部では垂直になる。
