Japanese: モグリウミツバメ(潜海燕) - モグリウミツバメ（英語表記）diving‐petrel

A general term for birds of the Pelecanoididae family in the order Pelecanoides. Small seabirds that at first glance resemble auks. This family consists of one genus and four species: the Peruvian petrel Pelecanoides garnoti , the Lesser Magellanic petrel P. georgicus , the Magellanic petrel P. magellani , and the (carrion) petrel P. urinator . Total length is 15-25cm. The feathers are black on the back and white underneath. They live mainly in the cold waters of the subantarctic, but one species is found as far as the coast of Peru.

ミズナギドリ目モグリウミツバメ科Pelecanoididaeの鳥の総称。一見ウミスズメに似た小型の海鳥。この科はペルーモグリウミツバメPelecanoides garnoti，ヒメモグリウミツバメP.georgicus，マゼランモグリウミツバメP.magellani，(ハシボソ)モグリウミツバメP.urinatorの1属4種よりなる。全長15～25cm。羽色は背面は黒く，下面が白い。亜南極圏の寒冷海域を中心に生息するが，1種はペルー沿岸まで分布している。
