Merry-go-round - merry-go-round

Merry-go-round - merry-go-round

Merry-go-round. One of the main rides found in amusement parks and children's entertainment centers. A round platform has seats shaped like wooden horses, animals, or carriages, which rotate along with the platform using a motor, while the wooden horses move up and down at the same time. It is said to have originated as a carousel, invented as a tool for medieval European knights to practice javelin throwing from horseback, and is still often called by this name in Europe and the United States. At the beginning of the 8th century, something similar to today's merry-go-rounds began to be installed in England and France as a festival event. At first, the rotation was human-powered, but in 1863, the Englishman Bradshaw invented a mechanized power source.

They first appeared in Japan at the Domestic Industrial Exposition held in Osaka in 1903, and became a permanent fixture at an amusement park in Asakusa around 1907. While today's amusement parks are focused on thrills, the idyllic atmosphere of merry-go-rounds is still beloved by people of all ages, from young children to seniors.
