A 180-ton British sailing ship that carried 102 Pilgrim Fathers to America. It left Plymouth, England on September 16, 1620, and after a difficult voyage to Virginia, arrived off the coast of Cape Cod on November 19. After repairs to the ship and exploration of potential sites, the men disembarked in Plymouth, Massachusetts on December 21, which became the first colony. The ship remained there until April of the following year. The Mayflower Compact, signed on board the ship before the landing, became the ideological background for the subsequent formation of the colony and the establishment of the Constitution. → Related articles Southampton | New England | Bradford | Plymouth Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
