...A shibi (ridge-end ridgepole) or onigawara (ridge tiles) are placed on the edge of the ridge, or a toribusuma (roof covering) is placed on top. In the Kinki region, cypress bark or persimmon-roofed ridges are often made with piled tiles, while in other regions they are often made with wooden box ridges, and oniita (ridge boards) with an outline similar to onigawara (ridgepole tiles) are used on both ends. Instead of onigawara (ridgepole tiles) or oniita (ridgepole boards), a shishiguchi (lion's mouth) with three cylindrical scrolls called kyo-no-maki (sutra scrolls) is used on karahafu (gabled roofs)....
