A curved surface (loop) is obtained by twisting a rectangular piece of paper (tape) once and gluing the opposite edges together. It is the simplest example of a curved surface with no distinction between front and back. It is studied in topology. Even if the tape is cut in the middle, the loop remains continuous and does not separate into two loops. It is named after the German mathematician August Ferdinand Moebius (1790-1868). → Topology Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
