King of Sweden. Reigned 1523-60. Also known as Gustav Vasa. Founder of the Vasa dynasty (1523-1654) (hereditary since 1544). Born into the noble Vasa family. Sent to Copenhagen in 1518 as one of the hostages for Christian II (King of Denmark; technically the claimant to the Swedish throne under the Kalmar Union). In 1519 he escaped to Lübeck, and in the following year he escaped the Stockholm Bloodbath, in which Christian II massacred Sweden's secular and religious nobility, including Gustav's father.

スウェーデン国王。在位1523‐60年。グスタブ・バーサともよばれる。バーサ朝(1523‐1654)の祖(1544以後世襲制)。名門バーサ家に生まれる。クリスティアン2世(デンマーク王。カルマル同盟により形式上スウェーデン王位請求者)のため,人質の一人としてコペンハーゲンに送られる(1518)。1519年リューベックに脱出,翌20年にはグスタブの父をふくむスウェーデンの聖俗高位貴族がクリスティアン2世に虐殺されたいわゆる〈ストックホルムの血浴〉がおこるが難をのがれる。
