This is the diary of Fujiwara Teika, also known as "Shokoki." The diary that remains is a daily diary that covers a period of 56 years, from 1180 (Jisho 4) when Teika was 18 years old to 1235 (Katei 1) when Teika was 74 years old. Although there are some gaps in the diary, most of the original remains in the Shigure-tei Bunko of the Reizei family. According to a letter of transfer that remains in the Reizei family, the diary was written up to the Ninji era (1240-1243). Also, quotations from "Meigetsuki" are found up to the article in the fourth year of Katei. The Shigure-tei Bunko currently holds 54 volumes (with gaps in the diary) that cover the period from 1192 (Kenkyu 3) to 1233 (Tenpuku 1), and these volumes are also preserved in other libraries. In addition to being the largest source of information on Teika's life and personality, it also contains detailed information on the movements of the poetry world, the state of poetry, the actual circumstances of the compilation of the "Shin Kokinshu," and reveals the fact that he copied many classic works in his later years. It is also noteworthy for including articles on the political struggles and lives of the nobles in the early Kamakura period, and sometimes on the society of the common people.
