A former kingdom of the Lunda people in Central Africa, named after a ruler with the title Mwata Yambo. It arose in what is now the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was founded around 1600 by Chibinda Ilunga. He moved to this area from the Luba country, married the Lunda queen Luwuge, and reorganized Lunda society into a Luba-style centralized state, becoming Mwata Yambo.
