Japanese: 間柱 - まばしら（英語表記）stud

A small auxiliary pillar installed between pillars does not directly support vertical loads, but serves as a base material for attaching wall base material to the wall structure. It is used when the pillars are far apart and wall partitions or wall base material cannot be placed between them. In wooden solid wall construction, it is combined with a nuki (crosspiece) to form a supporting frame. In Western-style large wall construction, small pillars that are about two or three times the size of a pillar are used. In steel-frame construction, wind-resistant, shaped steel or lattice-shaped studs are usually used.

柱の間に取付ける補助的な小柱で，直接に垂直荷重を支えるのではなく，壁体構成のため，壁下地を取付けるための下地材。柱と柱の間が離れており，壁仕切りや壁下地材が渡せないときに用いる。木造真壁造では貫 (ぬき) と組んで力骨とする。洋風大壁造では，柱の2つ割，3つ割程度の小柱を使う。鉄骨造では，普通，耐風上，形鋼またはラチス状の間柱を用いる。
