A Malay kingdom that flourished from around 1400 to 1511, centered around Melaka (Malacca) near the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It is also called the Sultanate of Malacca. The Malay Peninsula has long had a transportation route connecting China and India, and as a result, many kingdoms have risen and fallen. It is certain that there was an ancient city or kingdom in Melaka, but the details are not known. At the end of the 14th century, probably around 1390, Parameshvara, who was from Palembang on the island of Sumatra, settled in Melaka with the Malays and founded the Sultanate of Melaka.
