Moulao people (English spelling) Mù lǎo zú

Japanese: ムーラオ族(仫佬族) - ムーラオぞく（英語表記）Mù lǎo zú

One of China's ethnic minorities. They are distributed around Luocheng County in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, as well as Yishan, Liucheng, Duan, Xincheng and other counties. The population is about 160,000 (1990). They call themselves Muləm, Ling, Jin, etc. The Han Chinese call them 軫佬, while the Zhuang people call them ぷじん. In Chinese books they are written as 姆佬, 槆佬, etc. Their language belongs to the Dong-Sui (Water) branch of the Zhuang-Dong (Dong) family of Sino-Tibetan languages. They live in small plains and basins open to mountain streams, and are engaged in paddy rice farming, but also grow corn, beans and potatoes.

中国の少数民族の一つ。広西チワン(壮)族自治区の羅城県を中心に宜山，柳城，都安，忻城などの諸県に分布する。人口は約16万(1990)。自称は，ムーラン(Muləm)，リン(Ling)，ジン(Jin)など。漢族は彼らを仫佬と称し，チワン族はプージン(布謹)と称する。漢籍には姆佬，木佬などと記載される。言語はシナ･チベット語族中のチワン･トン(侗)語族トン･スイ(水)語支に属する。山間の渓流に開けた小平野，小盆地に居住し，水稲耕作に従事しているが，トウモロコシ，豆類，いも類などもつくる。
