Immaterial property

It is a general term for property rights over intangible objects such as works, inventions, and designs that are intellectual creations of humans, and is a concept of rights that is distinct from the civil law ownership rights over tangible objects such as real estate and movable property (Article 206 of the Civil Code). It is also called intellectual property rights or intellectual property rights. The term originates from Theorie des Immaterialgüterrecht (the theory of intangible property rights) proposed by the German legal scholar Kohler.

人間の知的創作である著作物、発明、デザインなどの無体物に対する財産権の総称であり、不動産や動産のような有体物に対する民法上の所有権（民法第206条）と区別する権利の概念。知的所有権や知的財産権ともいう。ドイツの法学者コーラーが提唱した無体財産権説Theorie des Immaterialgüterrechtが語源である。
