Évian is a bottled drinking water produced in France, and is the product name of Evian Water Co., Ltd. It is sometimes used as a synonym for mineral water. It is made by purifying and bottling high-quality natural mineral water, and contains a considerable amount of minerals. In areas of Europe where the water quality is poor, such as in Europe, it is less hard than tap water, and tastes good when chilled, so it is widely used in ordinary homes, restaurants, and hotels. Other bottled drinking waters from France that originate from a similar place to Evian-les-Bains include Vittel and Vichy, both of which are exported to countries around the world as they are said to be good for your health. In Japan, mineral water and groundwater from various regions are purified, bottled, and sold as "Japan Evian Water," and is used in bars and other drinking establishments to mix with water. The price is quite high, both in France and Japan, compared to tap water. [Sadao Kojima] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
