A term created in Japan to refer to night games such as baseball. In English, it is called a night game. In the US major league, the first night game was played on May 24, 1935, at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio, between the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies, with the Reds winning 2-1. In Japanese professional baseball, the first night game was played on August 17, 1948, at Lou Gehrig Memorial Stadium (Yokohama Gaelic Stadium) between the Yomiuri Giants and the Chunichi Dragons, with the Chunichi winning 3-2. Since then, starting with Korakuen Stadium in 1950, night lighting equipment has been installed in various stadiums, and night games have become common in summer professional baseball.
