He was one of the so-called "false prophets" who appeared in Arab society around the time of the rise of Islam. Inspired by the success of the Prophet Muhammad, several people emerged in Arab society at that time who called themselves prophets and gathered political power, but Musaylimah was the most powerful of them all, and became the leader of the Hanifa tribe. He once defeated the army sent by the first caliph, Abu Bakr, but was defeated and killed in battle by Khalid ibn al-Walid, a general of the Islamic army.
