Togatake

This mountain is located in the Tanzawa Mountains in western Kanagawa Prefecture. It is the most popular mountain among climbers among the Tanzawa main peaks. It is 1,491 meters above sea level. It is also called Sonbutsu-san, and on its summit is a natural stone (Kurosonbutsu) that resembles a standing Buddha statue. It has been revered since ancient times as a place to pray for rain during droughts and the moss on the stone is said to be effective against illnesses. However, it fell into a stream during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 (Taisho 12) and disappeared. The view from the summit is amazing, and there are mountain lodges near the summit and on the mountainside, making it a base for traversing the Tanzawa main peaks. The upstream of the three rivers that flow from here, Mizunashi, Shijuhasse, and Kurokura, are known for stream walking. It can be reached in about four hours by bus or on foot from Odakyu Electric Railway's Hadano or Shibusawa Station. It was once called "Tonodake."

神奈川県西部、丹沢山地(たんざわさんち)にある山。丹沢主峰群のなかで登山者にもっとも親しまれている。標高1491メートル。尊仏山(そんぶつさん)ともよばれ、頂上に仏の立像に似た自然石（黒尊仏）があり、干魃(かんばつ)時には雨乞(あまご)いをし、石上のコケが病気に特効があるとして古くから崇(あが)められてきた。しかし1923年（大正12）の関東大震災で沢へ転落して姿を消してしまった。頂上からの展望がすばらしく、山頂近くと山腹に山荘があり、丹沢主峰群縦走の拠点をなす。ここから流れ出る水無(みずなし)、四十八瀬(しじゅうはっせ)、玄倉(くろくら)三川の上流は沢歩きで知られる。小田急電鉄秦野(はだの)・渋沢(しぶさわ)駅からバスと徒歩で、ともに約4時間で達せられる。かつては「塔ノ岳」とよばれた。
