A song from the countryside - A little bit of a chick

Japanese: 鄙廼一曲 - ひなのひとふし

A song book written by Sugae Masumi. It was completed around 1809 (Bunka 6). In 1781 (Tenmei 1), the author set out on a lifelong journey, walking through Shinano and Echigo, Oshu, and Matsumae in Ezo, recording what he saw and heard. This book is a record of folk songs collected from these regions, and the preface reads, "In these days, in the lowly Yamagatsu lodgings, as we pound rice, millet, wheat, and barnyard millet, we hear them all day and night, and the tsukime's mortar songs, fumiusuta, and hikiusuta are amusing tunes that I have written down as I listened (the rest is omitted)." Many of the songs included are living folk songs that were sung by common people at the time, including rice field songs, mountain songs, boat songs, and nembutsu dance songs.

菅江真澄（すがえますみ）著の歌謡書。1809年(文化6)ころの成立。1781年(天明1)著者は生涯の旅に出，信濃，越後から奥羽を経て，蝦夷（えぞ）の松前に及ぶ各地を歩き，その見聞を記録している。この書は，それらの地域で集めた民謡の記録で，その序文に，〈今し世の賤（しず）山賤（やまがつ）の宿にて，よね(米)･粟･むき(麦)･稗（ひえ）を舂（つ）くに，ひねもす(終日)，さよ(小夜)はすがらに聞なれて，つきめ(舂女)の臼唄，雲碓唄（フミウスウタ），磨臼唄（ヒキウスウタ）も，おかしき曲（ふし）をひとつふたつと聞にまかせて，書いつくればさはなり(以下略)〉とあるように，所収歌の多くは，田歌，山歌，船歌，念仏踊歌をはじめ当時の庶民に歌われた生きた民謡である。
