Wig wrap - Katsuramaki

...The wig belts used with the Noh masks of medieval Sarugaku are a continuation of this ancient custom. Also, the costumes of female Kyogen performers include the head wrap wig (katsuramaki) (Katsura-tsumo), which was originally a cloth wrap that was used by medieval women to tie up their long, hanging hair when they worked, and this custom continues to be seen in Kabuki and other theater. [Hashimoto Sumiko]
[Theatrical wigs]

[Noh and Kyogen wigs]
The typical wig in Noh is used for female roles; the black hair is parted from the center, slicked back to cover the ears, and tied with a motoyui.
