Japanese: 民同運動 - みんどううんどう

This is the general term for the labor movement that developed after World War II in opposition to the Communists and advocated the democratization of unions, and has been used frequently since the Industrial Democracy League (Sanbetsu Mindo) was formed in February 1948. Japan's labor movement was in a hiatus for about 10 years until Japan was defeated in the Pacific War, but the defeat led to the abolition of restrictions such as oppressive laws against mass movements during the war, and in addition to the hardships of life caused by food shortages and hyperinflation, the formation of labor unions was encouraged as part of the early occupation policy of the American occupation forces, and union formation spread like wildfire, bringing a resurgence in the labor movement.

第2次大戦後の労働運動において，共産派と対立し組合民主化を標榜して展開された運動の総称で，1948年2月に産別民主化同盟(産別民同)が結成されて以降，この用語が多用されてきた。日本の労働運動は太平洋戦争で敗戦に至るまでの約10年間空白が続いたが，敗戦によって戦時中の大衆運動などに対する弾圧法規などの制約が撤廃されたこと，食糧不足や悪性インフレによる生活苦に加え，アメリカ占領軍初期の占領政策の一環として労働組合結成が奨励されたこともあり，燎原の火のように組合結成が広がり，労働運動は息を吹き返した。
