Of the Philippine islands, this island is located south of Luzon. A high mountain range runs through it from north to south, with Mount Halcon (2,585m) being the highest point. There are also plains on the east and west coasts. Rice, corn, copra, and Manila hemp are cultivated, but much of the interior is undeveloped. The inhabitants are a mixture of Tagalog, Ilocano, and Visayan. The main city is Calapan on the north coast. Area: 9,735 km2 .
