A park in New York City, USA. It has an area of 3.4 km2. It is located in the north-central part of Manhattan, and is a rectangle measuring about 4 km north to south and 800 m east to west. After about 10 years of lobbying to build a park by poet and journalist WC Bryant, writer W. Irving, politician and historian G. Bancroft, and others, the city purchased the land in 1856, and from among the designs submitted to the public, FL Olmsted and his friend C. Baugh were selected, and Olmsted became the chief architect in 1858. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
